Life Update
Hello everyone! I know that it has been quite some time since my last blog post and it is for a very good reason. Since my last post, I have made a personal trip out to Omaha, where my two of my very awesome cousins have invited me to move into their basement and spread my roots out here. While at first, I was a little hesitant when they asked me almost a year ago to come to Nebraska and give it a try, after losing my spot at a seasonal retail job, it seemed like just the thing to do almost as if the universe was giving me a sign that I needed to start over.
Not only did they invite me to stay in their basement, but they also had a challenge waiting for me....to completely help interior design their basement! After having massive snow and rainfall two years ago, their basement was completely flooded and had to be emptied and reconstructed, leaving it almost bare. Almost soon after hearing about what they had experienced with the flooding, I had been updated that the walls and floorboards had been redone and were now secure and they informed me that I was welcome to come stay anytime, but it first had to be designed and furnished. I became extremely excited and began mentally designing the room and had a bunch of ideas of how to bring it back to life once I arrived.
Once I landed and had a chance to look at the room in person, I knew this would be a fun project! After some hard work of looking for furniture, I stumbled upon a funky purple couch to replace one white one I had slept on until we got a bed. While it took a little convincing to get my cousin to agree that the couch looked amazing I finally got through to her and we decided on a desk, a coffee table… and the purple couch! Then after adding these few pieces, there came the orange barstool, blue desk chair and then my bed. To top it all off, I found a green bean bag, and an orange lamp just as funky as my new purple couch. We even added a small coffee/breakfast side table where I can make my coffee in the morning, and moved around an old bookcase they had to make a functional entertainment stand. While we still may need to add a few more additional items to my room to add some more pops of color, I could finally say we had completed designing the room together. Below are some before and after of what the room had looked like when I first arrived and what the room looks like now.
Now that the room is done, I finally have a place to live when I return from sorting things out in California. While I am still a little apprehensive about starting anew here in a town that is somewhat unfamiliar, I know that my family and my amazing best friend will always have my back. I am also excited to try new things and brace for new weather and life experiences that are sure to follow as I begin my journey here. So stay tuned to hear about everything that’s happening in my life as I become acquainted with Omaha. Until my next post, I’ll see you later! ;)
